Movement in Mental Health is a one week workshop in Choreography and Dance Basics including some Modern Contemporary, Jazz and Hip/Hop Dance techniques. This workshop is geared toward teens from the ages of 12-17 who want to find creative ways to express a neurodivergent or mental health journey and story through the art of dance. The project was inspired by board member Maria Fe Picar’s love for dance and extensive experience teaching others for many years on how to move their bodies for self-gratification and self-expression.

OBJECTIVE:

To be able to use dance as a vehicle to articulate a mental health story, release of pent up emotions and transform those emotions into a viable art form. Not only will students learn basic dance techniques, but they will be able to use choreography basics for future projects that translate as the beginning of learning musicality, composition, and structure as it also will apply to music and other performing arts.
